Speaker Bio:
Dr. Stanek is currently a Transfusion Medicine & Apheresis Fellow at Yale New Haven Health. She completed her medical education at The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia, followed by a pathology residency at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Abstract:
This session will review the foundations of Blood Bank quality systems and their intersections with AABB, FDA, CLIA, and CAP expectations. Using practical examples, we will highlight common inspection focus areas, frequent deficiencies, and strategies to design safer and more reliable processes.

Objectives:

1. Describe key components of a quality system  and how they support patient safety.
2. Differentiate the roles of AABB, FDA, CLIA, and CAP in transfusion service oversight.
3. Identify common inspection findings and outline practical prevention strategies.
