Speaker Bio:
Dr. Ljiljana V. Vasovic M.D. received her medical degree from the School of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Serbia. Her postgraduate training includes Research Fellow at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York in the field of cancer immunology and cancer vaccine; she completed Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York University 2002; Hematopathology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine 2003, and Transfusion Medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Joint Program in Transfusion Medicine 2004. Dr. Vasovic is Board-certified in Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She is recognized as an honorary Certified Advanced Biotherapies subject matter expert.
Dr. Vasovic has 30 years of medical experience and 20 years of leadership position in the field of laboratory medicine, transfusion medicine and cellular therapy. Dr. Vasovic was an Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) since 2004-2014, served as Associate Director Blood Bank, and Director, Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Laboratory at Montefiore Medical Center. She was Medical Director at Metro Blood Services, Yonkers. She joined Weill Cornell Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital from 2014 to 2023. She was Associate Director of Transfusion Medicine, Director of Clinical Cellular Therapy, and Director of Hematology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus, and Chief of Clinical Pathology New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan hospital. Dr. Vasovic was Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Vasovic joined Westchester Medical Center in March 2023 as a Chief of Clinical Pathology.
Dr. Vasovic research interest is focused on tumor immunology and stem cell transplantation. She has published over fifty publications in peer reviewed journals in the field of cancer immunology, transfusion medicine and stem cell transplantation.
She is passionate about education and mentorship. She was awarded AECOM Department of Pathology, Teaching Award and Weill Cornell Medical College Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Desmond Burke, MD Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education. AABB honored Dr. Vasovic with 2022 Memorial Hemphill-Jordan Leadership Award for her passionate commitment to the field of laboratory medicine and biotherapies.
