Abstract:

Patient Blood Management (PBM) is a globally recognized, evidence-based approach that optimizes patient care by managing and preserving a patient’s own blood. This webinar will define PBM using the internationally accepted framework and explore why standardizing its definition is essential for successful implementation. A key focus will be on integrating PBM into healthcare systems, emphasizing the necessary structural and strategic changes within an organization. Attendees will learn how PBM aligns with quality and safety initiatives, as well as the role of data, guidelines, and institutional policies in sustaining its practice. The session will also highlight how the blood bank and laboratory can lead this cultural transformation by driving education, implementing evidence-based transfusion strategies, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. By positioning the blood bank as a central hub for PBM advocacy and practice, healthcare institutions can successfully implement and sustain PBM, improving patient outcomes while enhancing clinical and operational efficiency.
