    Speaker Bio:

    Dr. Victoria Costa is Assistant Medical Director of the Blood Bank at NYU Langone Health, Tisch Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She is also Medical Director of the 34th Street and 38th Street Clinical Labs at NYU Langone Health Perlmutter Cancer Center. She completed residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

    Abstract:

    This presentation will provide an overview of advancements in immunotherapy with a focus on CAR-T cell therapy, including its production, clinical indications and efficacy, and ongoing challenges.

    Objectives:

    1. Understand CAR-T cell therapy and production.

    2. Summarize clinical efficacy of CAR-T cell therapy.

    3. Recognize challenges with CAR-T cell therapy and future directions.

    Addressing Mentorship, Research, and Career Development: A Panel Discussion for Trainees

    This panel will feature four panelists discussing topics relevant to all students and trainees in pathology and laboratory medicine. Topics will include mentorship, research, and career development.

    Panelists:


    Dr. Elizabeth Stone
    Dr. Elizabeth Stone is an Assistant Professor of Pathology & Cell Biology at Columbia University, where she practices Transfusion Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center as an Assistant Attending and is the Medical Director of Clinical Pathology at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester.  As a Principal Investigator in the Laboratory of Transfusion Biology, Dr. Stone has pioneered a mouse model for platelet transfusion with interest in optimizing platelet transfusion storage and outcomes.  Dr. Stone is also an active clinical educator across Divisions and Departments at Columbia University to promote best transfusion practices across the NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise, and she was awarded the Joseph Fink Teaching Award for her resident teaching.  She currently serves on the Board for BBANYS as Secretary, is the co-chair of the BBANYS Education Committee, and is chairing the 2024 BBANYS Annual Meeting.

    Speaker Bio:

    Matthew completed his MD and PhD at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign and completed his AP/CP pathology residency and Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking fellowship at the University of Michigan. He is the Transfusion Medicine Director, Director of Apheresis, Stem Cell Laboratory Associate Director, Medical Director of Chemistry, and Director of the Upstate Cord Blood Bank. In addition to these clinical roles, he serves as the Pathology Department Quality Officer and chairs 3 institutional quality committees. He is the Director of the SUNY Upstate Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking fellowship and Associate Director of the SUNY Upstate Pathology residency program. Matthew is a dedicated educator and proponent for interdepartmental and inter-institutional collaboration for best clinician learning as well as patient care.
